On April 15, the Valdai Club hosted an expert discussion titled “The Radicalisation of European Society as a Response to Global Challenges”.
The geopolitical situation in the world, particularly in Europe, is provoking another identity crisis. The increased popularity of radical parties, radical deviations from traditional rhetoric, and openly expressed doubts about the correctness of the policies being pursued, confirm the confusion of the European public and the decline in trust in the establishment.
The European powers are asking themselves about their own role in the international arena, while the ruling circles are trying to follow their previous political agendas. Among them is an uncompromising position regarding Russia. The confusion within European societies also affects the EU's relations with third countries, many of which, in turn, seek to maintain relations with Moscow.
How does the growth of internal contradictions in the EU affect decisions made in the field of security and foreign policy? What consequences will the European political establishment’s series of abrupt foreign policy decisions yield? How will the EU crisis affect Russian-European relations?
