Valdai Club

On January 31, at 12:00, the Valdai Discussion Club will host an expert discussion, titled “Life After Brexit: What Will Be the Separate Future of the United Kingdom and the EU?”

The saga of Britain departing the European Union is approaching an epilogue that had never seemed to come. The December parliamentary elections in Britain strengthened the position of the Conservatives, who, led by Prime Minister Boris Johnson, were able to close the Brexit deal in parliament. On January 23, both houses of the British Parliament approved the bill, which was then signed.

However, the process of “divorce” between London and Brussels will not end. After January 31, the citizens and businesses of the EU and UK will enter a transition period. The British intend to conclude a free trade agreement with the EU within a year, but in practice the process may be delayed.

What awaits Britain after leaving the European Union? How will Brexit affect the EU? Can London and Brussels reach a trade agreement within a short period of time? How can the new realities affect Russia and Russo-British relations? Participants in the expert discussion will answer these and other questions.
