Hanna Notte

Dr. Hanna Notte is a Senior Non-Resident Scholar with CNS, focusing on arms control and security issues involving the Middle East, Russia, their intersection, and implications for US/European policy. Prior to that, she was a Senior Political Officer with The Shaikh Group (TSG), a non-profit political consultancy focused on mediation and informal diplomacy in the MENA region. She researches Russian foreign policy in the Middle East and wrote her doctorate on that subject (Oxford University, 2018). She spent a year between 2015–16 in Moscow on an “Alfa Fellowship” with the Institute of Oriental Studies and the Carnegie Moscow Center. She has also been a visiting researcher at the KAS Syria/Iraq office in Beirut and the IISS Middle East office in Manama. Her articles have appeared in The Nonproliferation Review, Foreign Policy, The National Interest and Carnegie, among others. She holds an MPhil from Oxford University and a BA from Cambridge University. Hanna speaks Russian, Arabic and French and is a German national.
